Do not
slaughter fowls for human consumption within 21 days after vaccination.
·
Vaccinate
healthy fowls only.
·
Keep out
of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals.
·
Do not
administer simultaneously with or within 7 days after the administration of any
other live vaccine.
·
Vaccinate
all susceptible fowls on the farm at the same time, or if this is not possible,
prevent the spread of vaccine virus from the vaccinated to the unvaccinated
fowls by suitable management procedures.
·
Do not
keep partially used containers for future use and destroy any thawed vaccine
and empty vaccine containers after vaccination, by for instance burning.
·
Keep
liquid nitrogen containers away from chick houses and air intakes of incubators.
·
Liquid
nitrogen containers and vaccines frozen in liquid nitrogen should be handled by
properly trained personnel.
·
Do not
inhale liquid nitrogen vapours. If drowsiness occurs, fresh air should be
obtained immediately. Ventilate the whole area. Artificial respiration should
be applied if breathing difficulty occurs. Medical help should be sought if
breathing difficulties persist, or if loss of consciousness occurs.
·
Do not
thaw ampoules in hot or cold water.
·
Frozen
ampoules have been known to explode on sudden temperature change.
·
Use
according to the number of doses indicated on the vial.
·
Although
this vaccine has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions,
failure thereof may ensue for a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected,
seek veterinary advice and notify the registration holder.
PRECAUTIONS
·
Liquid
nitrogen – handle with care as indicated.
·
Apply
usual aseptic procedures.
·
Keep
ampoules in liquid nitrogen and do not thaw vaccine until ready to use.
·
Wear
protective gloves, safety glasses and long sleeves to protect the skin from
liquid nitrogen when removing the ampoules, handling frozen vaccine and adding
liquid nitrogen to the container. The liquid nitrogen container should be
stored and handled in a dry well-ventilated are.
·
When
withdrawing an ampoule from the container, the palm of the gloved hand should
be held away from face and body.
·
Do not
refreeze thawed vaccine.
·
Avoid contamination of the eyes, hands and clothing during
handling/administration of the vaccine.
·
Do not mix
with any other vaccine.
·
Note to
the physician or the medical care provider
Accidental contact with the eyes could lead
to severe, transient conjunctivitis. Consult a physician and inform him/her
that the vaccine contains live Newcastle
disease.
DIRECTIONS FOR
USE
Use only as directed.
Storage and preparation of the vaccine
suspension must be done with care. The following procedure is recommended.
·
Wear
protective gloves and spectacles during the thawing and ampoule opening
operations.
·
Remove from the liquid nitrogen only those ampoules that are to be used
immediately.
·
Thaw the
contents of the ampoules rapidly by agitation in water at 20 – 30 °C.
·
As soon as
the last ice cube has thawed, open the ampoules. Keep these at arms length in
order to prevent any risk of injury should the ampoule break.
·
Dissolve
the thawed vaccine in cool, clean, non-chlorinated, antiseptic- and
disinfectant-free water as described below.
ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
v Individual vaccination (as of 1 day of age) :
·
Eye drop method (example
for 1 000 doses)
Dilute the thawed vaccine solution in 40 to 60 ml of cool, clean, non-chlorinated, antiseptic and disinfectant-free
water, depending on the dropper used.
Place a drop of the vaccine solution onto one of the
eyes of each fowl, allow the drop to spread across the surface of the eye and
do not free the fowl until a swallowing motion has been observed.
v Mass vaccination
§ Aerosol-spraying (as of 1 day of age) (example for 1 000 doses)
Dilute the thawed vaccine solution (1 ml) in 300 ml of cool,
clean, non-chlorinated, antiseptic and disinfectant-free water (1 to 15 days of
age) or 500 ml (21 days of age) for example.
This volume should be adapted to the equipment used.
Spray the vaccine solution above the fowls using a
pressure-sprayer capable of producing micro-droplets.
For proper vaccine distribution, make sure that fowls
are well squeezed together during spraying and the following quarter of an
hour.
§ Drinking
water (from 5 days of age) (example for 1 000
doses)
To ensure that the fowls are thirsty, withhold the
normal water supply for 1-2 hours, depending on the ambient temperature.
Ensure that the drinkers are thoroughly cleaned prior to
use. Do not clean with disinfectants.
Add the thawed vaccine to 5 to 10 litres of cool, clean,
non-chlorinated, antiseptic and disinfectant-free water This volume should be
adapted to the age of the fowls and sufficient for the vaccine to be consumed
within the hour following distribution.
Skim milk powder (0,2 %
or 2 grams per litre of water) should be added to the drinking water to
stabilise the vaccine virus.
Distribute drinkers evenly throughout the house.
Ensure that there are enough drinkers available to allow
all of the fowls access to the vaccine-medicated water.
Do not recommence the normal water supply until all the
vaccine-medicated water has been consumed.
VACCINATION SCHEDULE
* Primary vaccination:- Day old
* Booster vaccination:- Two weeks later
and thereafter every 3 to 4 months.
