Primary vaccination at approximately 10 weeks of age followed by a booster with an inactivated vaccine prior to the onset of egg production.

·                     Administration technique

This vaccine must be administered by the oral route, through the drinking water.

Ensure that the birds are thirsty by depriving them of water for 1 to 2 hours depending on the ambient temperature prior to vaccination.  The total quantity of drinking water that will be consumed within 1 hour is estimated and skimmed milk powder added at a rate of 5 g per 2 l of cool water.  Mix thoroughly.

Reconstitute the freeze-dried vaccine with 1 ml of the water and milk powder mixture per vial, irrelevant of the vial size.  Immediately after reconstitution the vaccine is added and mixed into 1 l of the water and milk powder solution.  This mixture is then added to the total quantity of water and milk powder that will be consumed by the fowls within one hour.  Mix thoroughly.

Water consumption can be calculated with the following approximate figures:

AGE

LITRE / DAY

per 1000 birds

Broilers

7 days

45

14 days

80

Breeders/layers

10 weeks

150

These figures may vary considerably depending on a number of factors.  It is advisable to determine water consumption for each flock shortly before vaccination.
